Walk One: Locko Park
South Lodge to Dunshill |
|
|
Enter the park through the South gates past the eighteenth century
lodge houses. This private road, also a bridleway, curves
down to the lake.
Keep on the road as it runs to the right hand side of the lake.
There are magnificent views of the hall from here. The lake itself
is home to a variety of birdlife, including herons and rescued
swans. |
|
|
Continue along the road, keeping right where it forks (the private
road to the left over a cattle grid leads to the hall). The road
runs straight here along towards East Lodge.
Bear left as
the road becomes a rough track and pass through a gate. The track
then begins to climb, steeper towards the top. The rough nature of
the track gives rise to its local name, Sandy Lane. |
|
|
At the top of the hill, follow the track around to a gate by a
lodge. Through the gate and you're at Dunshill, the East car parking area. You
can now continue onwards with
Walk 2 (there's a pub at the end of
that bit!) or re-trace your steps back through the park. |
